Prolific: Get Paid to be a Psychology Participant!

Prolific Academic is a website that pays you for participating in psychological surveys that are for actual studies! Before I go any further, you must either have a university email address or a Facebook account to participate. It seems as though if you are in the US or UK, you get more studies than if you're not, but everyone worldwide can sign up.

Pre-Screening Process

There is a series of demographic questions that you need to answer on your account page before you will receive any offers for surveys. Be sure that filling out these questions are the first thing that you do, or else you won't receive any offers and might get confused. You can answer as many or as few of the questions as you want, but the more that you answer, the more survey opportunities you will get!

Surveys

The surveys themselves are very straight-forward, and never require any crazy personal information. They're easy to complete, but make sure you're paying attention and not just selecting any answers, because there are a few "attention-testing" questions where they see if you're paying attention. Keep in mind that all of these surveys are reviewed by real people, as far as I know.

On your list of available surveys, it will say how long the survey is expected to take to complete, as well as the money you will receive upon completion and approval. For example, my first study was for $1.00, and it took 10 minutes to complete. That's not bad! In theory, if I had 10 surveys available to me, then I could potentially make $10/hour on this website at that rate.

Keep in mind, I haven't had a survey pop up for me since that time, two days ago. It's not something worth quitting your day-job over, because only surveys that you're eligible for will pop-up. But keep an eye out and refresh the page often!

Prolific does have a referral program, so you should refer your friends to see if you can make even more money!

Rewards / Cashout

Prolific pays out to PayPal accounts only, or you can choose to donate your profit to a charity as well! The minimum payout amount is $5.00, so you cannot withdraw before reaching that marker.

Wrap Up

So far, it seems as though Prolific could really be worth your time if you get lucky and happen to have a lot of studies that you're eligible for. A great resource I've found is this Subreddit specifically for Prolific where they list a bunch of studies: [link] that you may be eligible for, and generally have a good rate. The only downside I've noticed is that sometimes there aren't a lot of available studies, and even when you complete one, you have to wait for somebody to approve it before it gets credited to your balance.

Other than that, the website seems like a fantastic idea. It is brand new and is getting a lot of new traffic every day, so if it's slow I would try to be patient with it!

As always, if you feel like this post helped you out or taught you anything, please feel free to help me out by using my referral link HERE, and otherwise here is your non-referral link for you to check out Prolific Academic!

If you have any comments or questions, I'd be happy to answer them, so please leave them below and I'll get back to you!
