Loot! is an iOS and Android app that pays you to take selfies! No, I'm not joking! You rack up cash by completing specific selfie-tasks! However, this app may not be all that it seems. Let's take an in-depth look at Loot! and what reviews have to say, as well as my own personal experience with the app.
How To Earn With Selfies
After you sign up, you arrive on the front screen that lists a bunch of different scenarios to take selfies in exchange for money.
So you click on one of the tasks, and it takes you into an in-depth description of the task. It tells you exactly how much money you'll earn for that task, as well as various entries from other people.
If you click on the section under "Actions" that says "Share Photo", they provide you with a short set of instructions entailing exactly what you need to do in order to receive credit. That looks something like this.
The rules are very specific, and if you do not follow those rules, they will not accept your photo or pay you for submitting the photo. In this case, Loot! wants you to take a screenshot of the app review you leave (kind of shady, since it leads to false 5-star reviews...) but, it's easy enough to do and very fast. This isn't exactly a "selfie", but there are a ton of other options that are literal selfies -- asking you to take a picture with a Monster energy drink or in front of a movie poster, etc.
You can either click "Photo Library" and choose a photo from your camera roll that you've taken, or you can take a brand new photo by pressing the "Camera" button.
Sounds easy enough, right? Here's the kicker. After you snap the picture, it will ask you to SHARE the picture on either Facebook or Twitter. If you're anything like me, you absolutely loathe sharing stuff like this on social media -- "Hey, let me spam you as I earn 50 cents"... but, it's easy enough to do and you can delete it afterwards from your social media account, hoping nobody sees it. Otherwise, if you have no problem sharing that sort of stuff, then you're golden! Make sure you set up and connect either your Facebook or Twitter (or both) through your settings on Loot! (the upper left menu button) before trying to share, it has to be connected beforehand to work. If an error pops up again, make sure you're also logged in through the Facebook or Twitter apps on your phone.
After sharing the picture on social media, if you've followed the rules, you should be credited the cash! Once you do this a couple times, it'll be super fast and you'll begin racking up the dollars.
How To Earn Through Offers
As may have seen on the first picture of the previous section, Loot! also has special offers for you to earn even more cash. They claim to offer up to $20 just for completing offers.
Before you can complete their offers, you have to complete a quick survey about your demographics, much like other websites we've discussed before.
There are 18 questions about stuff like your birthday, your income, marital status, occupation, your pets, your electronics, and so on. The basic demographic stuff. After that, you'll be brought to this screen where it shows you a list of offers.
As you can see, on the top it says "Select > Qualify > Survey", so that tells me that even if you select a certain survey, you may not qualify for it and they could shut you out of it.
It looks like each survey tells you how much you'll earn, and how fast it'll take, as well as whether it's "free" and if you need to sign up for something by the little tags underneath the offer.
After you complete the offer, you will be credited the money to your balance.
Cashing Out
Loot! allows you to cash out directly through PayPal, all you have to do is setup your PayPal email address in the settings (Top left icon, menu > settings). The minimum withdrawal amount you must have in your balance before you can cash out is $10.00! Since each selfie offer is about $0.50, this probably wouldn't take too long to acquire!
Concerns
I was looking through the reviews, and of course there are a large number of them because one of the tasks is to submit a review to get money, so I'm not sure how many of the 5-star ones are actually genuine or accurate, but I took a look at some of the lower-starred ones and here's what I found.
- Apparently, a lot of the survey offers don't actually load when you click them, or they are very slow.
- Some tasks reward "points" instead of cash, I'm not sure what the conversion ratio for these are, but it sounds disappointing.
- It's annoying to have to share to social media in order to get credit.
- A few reports of not earning money, but this might be because the person didn't follow the rules provided for the task.
- One person reports getting banned from the program because they didn't follow the rules too many times.
So keep these things in mind when you're deciding to use Loot! Overall, it doesn't sound too negative. Most of the reviews are saying that it's a pretty fast way to earn money compared to other rewards apps.
Wrap Up
Loot! seems like a refreshing new way to present a rewards app, especially for the younger generation who already take a bunch of selfies or pictures in general! It seems as though a lot of the selfie-tasks require products that you could probably find in a grocery store, so maybe a good tactic would be to look through the tasks as you're grocery shopping and take a bunch of the pictures with the required products while you're there, and then send them all in at once!
Just remember to follow the instructions provided in each task, or else you won't earn anything!
Here is a direct link to Loot!'s website, and you can also find it through a quick search for "Loot!" on the App Store or Play Store. Good luck!
